NEEM Camp opens for the Season 2011
The NEEM camp which is base for a wide range of international climate related research
The NEEM camp – North Greenland Eemian Ice Drilling project - will open for the season 2011 on May 3rd, weather permitting. The NEEM camp will stay open until mid August 2011.
Though bedrock was reached on July 27, 2010 at the depth 2537.36 m, lots of on-going and new projects are to be carried out during the summer by the about 75 participants from the 14 nations involved in the NEEM ice core drilling project.
The 75 participants will spend from a few weeks to more than a month in the remote camp situated at the northern part of the Greenlandic Icecap. All during the season they will be busy not only with scientific work but also jobs that needs to be done to have the camp running.

Online measurements of chemicals, water isotopes and gases with the most modern and sophisticated equipment, drilling of a 400 m core and an attempt on drilling through the basal ice in the deep hole, making preparations for moving the 35 t heavy main dome, and set-up and operation of a seismic station are just a few of the many projects and events that are planned for the coming season.
